MARTHA SKYE MURPHY SELF TAPE

London-based singer and soundtrack enthusiast Martha Skye Murphy may have just revealed her most stunning cut to date with 'Self Tape'. Channeling the beautifully haunting atmosphere of her collaborator Nick Cave's heartbreaking 2016 LP Skeleton Tree, ambient synthesizers glitter around Murphy's impassioned piano playing. Using her unique voice as an instrument, Murphy showcases its' versatility over the near 7 minute track, reaching almost dog whistle highs and dusky lows, whilst lyrically reflecting on the toxicity of online culture. Accompanied by an explorative video directed by audio-visual artists Waterbaby, which looks at "the complex power dynamics that operate within the male gaze and plays with the idea of who is watching who," 'Self Tape' is lifted from Martha Skye Murphy's forthcoming Yours Truly EP (due out on the 13th of November). -Holly Mullineaux
